About

Me

My Family

I live here in Clayton, CA with my lovely wife, Anna and joyful 5-year old son, Alan. We love to spend the weekends hiking, playing sports, and building things.

My Education

I started my journey at CSU Long Beach where I received my BA in Liberal Studies, Minor in Language and Literacy, and a Teaching Credential.  I then continued my education at Walden University for a Masters in Science Education. I hope to one day go back and get my Doctorate in astrophysics at UC Berkeley. Fingers crossed!

My Career

Before embarking on my time at Diablo View, I was a 4th and 5th grade teacher at Fair Oaks Elementary on Monument Blvd. I am on the NGSS Steering committee within the district to roll out the new science standards effectively and efficiently. I won the 2019-20 MDUSD Teacher of the Year and currently a finalist for the Contra Costa County TOY.  Fingers-crossed!

My Mission

I was born and raised in Oakland, CA.  I remember when the Warriors were awful, the Raiders just moved back from LA, and the release of Apollo 13 and Jurrasic Park movies came out.  I knew from that day forward I wanted to be a archealogist or an astronaut.  I dug holes in my back yard for years after looking for any kind of treasure.  When I needed a break, I stared into the skies.

My dad passed away when I was 9, and I had to grow up fast.  I knew from that day forward how important a male role model is to a child.  I searched and searched for a bandaid, and the few good role models I had, changed my life forever.  One being my 8th grade science teacher at Foothill, Mr. Smetzer.  He wore a tie every day, and showed us the great canadian TV show, Degrassi Jr. High, at lunch.

As I grew up, I knew what my calling in life would be; I had to be a teacher.  I was passionate about being an advocate for those like me who needed guidance and support, I was in love with helping others reach their potential, and I was dedicated to living up to the expectations my father had for me to be something great.

Now, I could not be more excited and proud to be teaching my favorite subject science within the community I live. I look forward to helping each one of you grow and obtain strong scientific literacy that will propel you into having a greater opportunity in life than you could ever imagine.
